Job Description Summary

Graduate Assistantships at Lock Haven University provide students with a variety of opportunities for scholarly and professional development designed first and foremost to reinforce and enhance their scholarly pursuits, while providing financial assistance for students in attaining their educational goals. Graduate assistantships give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in teaching, research, academic or administrative service under the guidance of a faculty or staff member. Graduate Assistantships are integral to the students program of study and to the transformation of a student into a professional scholar. They also advance the University mission to recruit highly qualified students to our graduate programs in greater numbers.

Specific Duties

General Description of LHU Athletics Administrative GA Position:
The administrative GA will be guided and directed by the primary supervisor(s) in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and other professional staff members of LHU Athletics. This administrative GA position will have responsibilities related to athletics event management in addition to marketing/promotions/special recognitions.
The types of event management responsibilities the GA will experience include but are not limited to: serving as “event manager” for home contests, tournaments and special athletic events as assigned; maintaining competition schedules; confirming officials; communicating with representatives from visiting teams in advance of scheduled competitions; helping coordinate and assist with field maintenance and facility set-ups for practices and competitions; communicating with various LHU offices and personnel regarding practice and events schedules; representing the University at home tournaments, championships or competitions when appropriate; serving as liaisons between their assigned programs and the Sports Information Director; train, supervise, and evaluate student workers, etc.
Administrative GAs will also be expected to represent Lock Haven University and LHU Athletics as follows:
•Attend all regularly scheduled departmental meetings as their schedules permit
•Consult with their supervisor(s) and/or appropriate administrative staff in conducting the day-to-day business of athletics
•Maintain a “team” approach and embrace the athletic department’s mission, vision, and core values
•Teach and develop the life-long attributes that athletics has identified as important to develop within each LHU student-athlete
•Maintain a daily schedule that is reflective of the scope of their administrative GA responsibilities
•Promote a strong athletics program and represent the University and LHU Athletics at the highest level of character and integrity
•Contribute in a positive way to University life and the local community

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
