Job Description Summary

Lock Haven University invites applications for a full-time, temporary position in the Department of Academic Development and Counseling (ADAC) at the Lock Haven University main campus for AY 2017-2018 beginning August 19, 2017 and ending May 25, 2018. This position may require use of technology to assist LHU’s Clearfield branch campus students with counseling issues and occasional site visits.

  • The position will require attendance at weekly clinical staffing meetings as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • The position will also indlude conducting intakes, assessments, diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Additional duties will include providing daytime crisis/emergency services as needed; consultation with the Director of the University Counseling Service and participation in clinical supervision; provision of individual counseling and other modalities as needed; maintenance of a counseling caseload; completion of contact notes and other necessary documentation ( i.e. revised case conceptualizations/treatment plans, inactivation summaries etc); service on Departmental and University committees as appropriate and providing general counseling services to (LHU) students and requisite documentation.
Essential Duties
  • Providing counseling services by meeting with students for individual counseling and treatment at the Lock Haven Campus and/or Clearfield branch campus.
  • Completes intakes, contact notes, treatment plans and inactivation summaries.
  • Provides daytime/emergency services as needed.
  • Consults with the counseling service team and attends weekly clinical staffing.
Specific Duties

Besides performing the essential duties, the counselor shall serve as Outreach Coordinator for the Lock Haven Counseling Service. This will include in-service training and programs on mental health topics for the campus community. The position may require use of technology to assist LHU’s Clearfield branch campus students with counseling issues and occasional site visits.

Minimum Qualifications

(Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related field and license eligibility as a counselor or related field. Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.
  • The successful candidate will also have a minimum of three years experience working in a counseling capacity.
  • Experience working in a counseling capacity with trauma, sexual assault/domestic violence, eating disorders and the LGBTQ population is essential.
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and /or perform effectively in an interview or clinical case presentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience working in a University Counseling Service or Center is strongly preferred.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
