Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The position is an employee of the Lock Haven University Foundation and reports to the Foundation’s Executive Director. The Major Gifts Officer is primarily responsible for raising major and planned gifts (as determined by the Foundation Gifts Acceptance Policy) from individuals, corporations, foundations and other constituent organizations.

Essential Duties

• Maintain a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects and develop a cultivation strategy for each prospect in the portfolio
• Conduct at least 15 face-to-face monthly visits with prospects for the purpose of moving the gift discussion forward (At least 5 of the 15 monthly visits should be with assessment prospects)
• Solicit at least 24 major gifts on an annual basis as determined by the Foundation Development Plan and adhering to the University Case for Support (At least 3 of 24 solicitations should entail planned giving vehicles)
• Design and implement capital fund raising efforts as the needs of the University dictate
• Maintain relationships with Lock Haven University administrators and faculty to collaborate on fundraising projects and campaigns for specific programs and services based on the University Case for Support
• Maintain relationships with volunteers who serve on all LHU and LHU Foundation boards and committees
• Manage the Campaign Cabinet Chairs and volunteers (Executive Director will work with the Campaign Co-Chairs)
• Hold regular meetings with assigned Dean’s
• Maintain a positive and active presence in the local community

Specific Duties

• Portfolio shall consist of identified prospects that may be scatted throughout the three colleges, athletics, and corporate/business partnerships.
• Comprehend and implement all aspects of the Foundation Development Plan, Rules of the Road, Gift Officer Prospect Responsibilities, and Goal setting process
• Work with the Director of Stewardship and Special Events to assist in stewardship activities (such as attending events as deemed necessary and appropriate)
• Work with the Director of Advancement Services and Annual Fund to provide accurate and timely pledge reminders
• Have an exceptional working knowledge of the University Strategic Plan, Case for Support and core competencies and priorities
• Provide a level of professionalism and courteousness to current and prospective donors, Foundation, and University staff at all times.
• Be an active member of the Lock Haven community through involvement in non-profit / community activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• Bachelor’s degree required;
• Experience building and maintaining relationships;
• Strong commitment to and a broad understanding of the principles related to donor centered philanthropy;
• Experience working in a collaborative work environment;
• Must be able to travel regularly to visit with prospective donors and to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of successful professional experience in fundraising.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
