Job Description Summary

Graduate Assistantships at Lock Haven University provide students with a variety of opportunities for scholarly and professional development designed first and foremost to reinforce and enhance their scholarly pursuits, while providing financial assistance for students in attaining their educational goals. Graduate assistantships give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in teaching, research, academic or administrative service under the guidance of a faculty or staff member. Graduate Assistantships are integral to the students program of study and to the transformation of a student into a professional scholar. They also advance the University mission to recruit highly qualified students to our graduate programs in greater numbers.

Specific Duties

Assist in all aspects of Lock Haven University’s Athletic Communications & Marketing department and the promotion of its NCAA Division I & II athletic programs. The position will cover the day-to-day responsibilities of assigned sports along with other operations related to the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the promotion of athletics and athletic related events.
• Cover assigned sports (serve as direct media contact).
• Assist with management of work-study students and class interns.
• Manage rosters, schedules, sports files, and other features of
• Input statistics using STATCREW for home events.
• Write pre-game, post-game, and other press releases related to assigned sports.
• Work with media to promote student-athletes.
• Manage social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat, among others), develop social media contact including, but not limited to infographics, game-day promos and fan-engagement activities).
• Design and develop game-day programs, graphics and promotional images.
• Serve as liaison with radio partners and other broadcast groups.
• Assist with PSAC Network duties as assigned.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Experience using STATCREW software.
• Experience writing post-game recaps, features stories and other press releases
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
• Experience with Social Media
• Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Must be available to travel and work nights & weekend.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
