Job Description Summary

Graduate Assistantships at Lock Haven University provide students with a variety of opportunities for scholarly and professional development designed first and foremost to reinforce and enhance their scholarly pursuits, while providing financial assistance for students in attaining their educational goals. Graduate assistantships give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in teaching, research, academic or administrative service under the guidance of a faculty or staff member. Graduate Assistantships are integral to the students program of study and to the transformation of a student into a professional scholar. They also advance the University mission to recruit highly qualified students to our graduate programs in greater numbers.

Specific Duties

The Lock Haven University Athletic Department and Health Science Department, respectively, are seeking Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Head Athletic Trainer will assign medical care responsibilities based upon individual experience with some preference given to individual applicants’ career goals if possible. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, academic success of student athletes via prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and documentation of athletic injuries. Each graduate assistant will be responsible for onsite medical care, maintenance of the athletic training facilities, as well as serving as preceptors within the CAATE-approved athletic training program. Other duties may be assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. Travel with assigned sports teams may be required (as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer).

These positions are 9-month appointments that begin in early August. Each graduate assistant will be paid a stipend of approximately $5,550. Additional hourly stipends may be paid for preseason medical care. Additional income may also be available through summer camp employment.

These positions include a tuition waiver for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. Completion of many graduate programs, however, will require additional classes to be taken in the Summer I/II 2019 sessions, which are not covered by the tuition waiver. Additional information about LHU graduate programs may be found here: http://www.lockhaven.edu/academics/graduate.html. Additional student fees associated with each program may be required.
