Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Lock Haven University Health Science Department is seeking an Instructor/Assistant Professor and Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 2018-2019 academic year. The position will begin August 1, 2018 and end May 24, 2019.

This position is a 9 month contract with an additional 2 credits of summer contract. Summer contract appointments will be assigned according to Article 24 of the APSCUF Faculty CBA.

This position is a one year temporary assignment.

Teaching responsibilities will including Human Anatomy and Physiology (introductory level) and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries. Other courses may be assigned depending on qualifications and experience.

Medical care responsibilities will be assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and include, but are not limited to, supporting the student athletes via prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and documentation of athletic injuries. Athletic Trainers will be responsible for onsite medical care, maintenance of the athletic training facilities, serving as preceptors within the CAATE-approved athletic training program, along with other duties assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. Travel with assigned sports teams may be required (as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer).

Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays as needed. Ability to perform moderate physical activity. Basic computer skills plus strong interpersonal communication skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • BOC Certification Required; PA Athletic Training License or eligible required.
  • Master’s Degree required.

Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.

  • Collegiate athletic training experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process.

Successful candidates must be able to fulfill all the responsibilities and duties of a fully licensed Athletic Trainer.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
