Job Description Summary

Graduate Assistantships at Lock Haven University provide students with a variety of opportunities for scholarly and professional development designed first and foremost to reinforce and enhance their scholarly pursuits, while providing financial assistance for students in attaining their educational goals. Graduate assistantships give students an opportunity to gain practical experience in teaching, research, academic or administrative service under the guidance of a faculty or staff member. Graduate Assistantships are integral to the students program of study and to the transformation of a student into a professional scholar. They also advance the University mission to recruit highly qualified students to our graduate programs in greater numbers.

Specific Duties
  • Responsible for making videoconference connection with Lock Haven campus 20 minutes prior to each scheduled lecture to assure video connection is established and equipment is functioning properly
  • Responsible to monitor connection between LHU and branch campuses during all class sessions and report technical difficulties to both onsite faculty member and technical support personnel
  • Establish immediate phone connection between LHU and branch campuses in the event of technical difficulties
    *In collaboration with graduate assistants at other campuses, record lectures to Mediasite
  • Research other models of distance education utilized in PA education and provide references and summary to PA faculty
  • Assist faculty in developing delivery strategies in the distance education environment that focus on student centered activities
  • Perform research regarding proposed new initiatives within the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and report the results of such research back to the PA faculty
  • Assist faculty in development of department web pages and provide feedback regarding clarity, ease of navigation, broken links, and overall utility of the web design
  • Collect and distribute all handouts and other classroom materials prior to the beginning of each class session
  • Copy and collate materials as required for in class instruction and as instructed by program faculty or director
  • Collect and mail assignments to Lock Haven Campus as required
  • Perform clerical duties at the direction of the program director and the Campus Coordinators including, but not limited to typing of general correspondence, web page updating and development, photocopying, data input and other tasks as required
  • Act as a student liaison between Branch campus PA students and faculty at the Branch campuses

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the “Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form” and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University’s Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years’ worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
